She also shared that she wanted to share the menu to "make people understand why veganism is important and not just a bad thing. What happened in the past has not happened now."
Though Shilled Pritchard has made a career out of helping people at "food deserts," many others in her community say she doesn't necessarily live in a vegan lifestyle.
"People in other places [were] saying that she is like she is not just doing one thing and not following an order or getting a tip, instead she is creating something great and something amazing, and it's amazing. Sometimes it's a little different for different restaurants," said Lisa Jones, 28, a sales assistant in East Chicago. But she added that she still keeps an eye on people in "food deserts" and has gotten a lot of responses from people, "who were really happy to see me on the outside looking in."
